Scholastic
Figtree had previously developed a desktop system to track book specs and book summaries.
Also developed an intranet-based system to track author information.
This information is stored in their internal database.
Needed to make data available to partners.
XML is used to transfer this information.

Web-Based Business Software
Site Inspections, LLC
The primary use of this web site is to
allow customers to request property inspections, check the
status of those requests and review the completed inspection
reports.
Scholastic
Millennium
Millennium provides in depth reporting
on Scholastic book titles. It is heavily used in New
York and is in use by Scholastic divisions around the globe.
Millennium provides information used by
groups in sales, editorial, production, marketing and
financial areas, and includes information about inventory,
sales, title descriptions, club sales and included titles,
sets of books, and much more. It allows for selection
of titles by a wide set of criteria, and selection of a wide
array of information about titles to be returned in the
results set. Results sets are returned in several
formats including text reports and spreadsheets.
Orange Sheet
Process flow system replaces paper
system (Orange Sheets) used to build cost budgets.
Information is entered by the Art, Editorial, Production and
Manufacturing groups to develop the budget estimates for
titles that have been acquired by and are going to be
produced by Scholastic. Estimates can be based on
actual costs of producing ‘like titles’. Information
is reviewed by an administrator as it is completed by each
group and is ‘assigned’ to the next group. A status
page allows users to see titles assigned to them.
OPTS
Used to track the ordering of ‘Outside
Titles’ (items that are not produced by Scholastic).
It generates the OP form that is used to review and approve
purchase of these titles and emails it to a list of
interested Scholastic parties. OPTS is used by
Scholastic divisions worldwide.
Data is entered by Book Clubs in New
York. Once all data has been input and has been
approved for purchase, Scholastic offices worldwide are
informed about the availability of the titles.
Excess Shopping Cart
Web based Intranet system in use by
Scholastic departments worldwide to request books with excess inventory. The
system has a shopping cart interface that allows
potential Scholastic ‘buyers’ of this inventory to search the
list based on their requirements and select the titles that
they need, and helps keep inventory under control.
Trade Job Tracking
Tracks the life cycle of Collateral, Art
and Advertising job requests. ‘Partners’ log into the
system to request jobs that are then approved or denied by
an administrator. If approved, the traffic coordinator
is notified by e-mail to set up the team and work schedule.
Once entered, the entire team is notified by e-mail.
The traffic coordinator tracks the progress of the job by
entering the completion date of each step into the system.
Several reports are available to review the status of jobs
that are in process.
Trade Sales Comments
This system allows the sales reps to communicate with
management from wherever they are. They can simply
enter sales information, customer comments or problems, and
management can respond easily.
Order Form
Used to build the Scholastic Club
(Arrow, SeeSaw, Trumpet, etc.) order forms that are sent to
schools. As the titles that will make up a club offer
are compiled, many changes and revisions occur. This
web application allows the changes to be put in place
quickly, keeping the titles, price information, check digits
and other information that will be needed to produce the
order form. It is also used to inform the warehouse of
the titles that will be used in a specific club offer.
The Order Form system is used by artists that design the
order form, writers in developing the blurbs, as well as by
the warehouse to set up picking locations.
SMART
This system provides the ability for the Trade
group to review and edit data on titles that are being
prepared for or are available for sale through the Trade
channels. It also provides reporting on unit and
dollar sales by channel, account, title and period.
